In 2001, I created Produce for Kids®, an organization that has been very blessed to have grown into an industry leading cause marketing program for the produce industry supporting children’s non-profit organizations and educating teachers and parents on the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. I have been in the produce industry for nearly 34 years and in that time I have met many wonderful people. One of the things that has been so inspiring to me over the years is just how sincere and honest and genuine people can be when each one is trying to help with a goal to achieve.

That’s where Kevin Dunleavy comes into the conversation for me. I first met Kevin more than 15 years ago when our company was working on developing an in store recipe program to help customers with meal planning. At the time Kevin’s company, Try Foods International was specializing in exactly what we were looking for, and that started a business relationship that has lasted to this day. Although the company is now know as Integrated Marketing Services (IMS) and Kevin has sold his interest in the company he still is someone that I speak to regularly about another passion we both have and that is the Southeast Produce Council.

Kevin and I served together for five years on the SPC Board of Directors and in that time I learned an entirely different side of Kevin. His love for his family, his faith and the Southeast Produce Council. This organization has brought together people from all walks of our industry. One primary goal of the council is to give back for which it has been so richly blessed. Kevin has been instrumental as committee chair of the community outreach program and others. His tireless efforts to make events successful such as Strong 4 Life which is a joint program between the SPC with the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta to teach kids and adults the benefits of a healthy lifestyle thru proper diet and to curb diseases that obesity can bring have been amazing with tens of thousands of kids getting access to fresh produce thru S4L programs. Kevin has a strong passion for health and fitness and his ambition is something that is so refreshing and inspiring to others.

What I can say about Kevin is that he is original, honest, approachable and a very giving person and I am so glad that our lives crossed paths all those years ago, for I am a better person for it.
